December 21 : Fox Story #16 Part 1

No blogging for awhile but now I'm BACK! My brother Woody and I have been secretly working on a book of Fox Stories (see photo above) I did all of the drawings and Woody did the printing and binding.. This has meant that for months I haven't shared Fox stories so it would be a full surprise Hanukkah present for my brother Ave (the Fox stories creator) and my parents.  Mission accomplished - and look at how AMAZINGLY PROFESSIONAL AND AWESOME THOSE BOOKS ARE!!!!!!!!

Anyway, now that the book has been unveiled, I can start posting fox stories from the past couple of months. Here's Fox Story #16, part 1:

October 15 : Mr. Subway Dude

Today the UNTHINKABLE happened... Mr. Subway Dude SMILED BACK!!! I'm slightly suspicious that he's an avid reader of my blog and knew it would make my day... SUSPICIOUS but totally THRILLED!

September 18 : James Turrell Inspiration

The other day, my office took a field trip to the Guggenheim to experience the James Turrell exhibit. I really enjoyed it and somehow, that night my sketching turned to an obvious ode to the exhibit...

If you're in NYC and can check out the show, I recommend it! Tip: the lines get pretty crazy, so go early and try to go to the 5th floor as soon as you get in to avoid the bulk of the lines.

September 17 : Danny Kayaks

I drew these two nights apart - a burst of artsy-ness around midnight each time.

BUT, before you get to the drawings, first you get to read about the awesome story (in my opinion) from Danny's kayaking trip this past weekend: so! Danny was on the river and a random lady paddled up to him in an eddy and said "Hey! Is your girl friend the one who wrote that kayaking comic?!?" HA!!!!! She was referencing my blog post from March 17 when I did a mini comic on many of the classic situations that come from dating a kayaker. She said she recognized Danny from the way I had drawn him and his pirouette boat - that she loved the comic and had even printed it out! SCORE! I was so tickled by the whole story (and hopefully so are you) - and now for the drawings I promised:

September 13 : Map On The Wall

The latest project at work has been to create a map of the nearby area for people to post favorite food and drink locations. The initial size was about 5 feet by 4.5 feet:

There's Sara D. Roosevelt Park, which OBVIOUSLY should be represented by green people:

And little Petrosino Square Man!

BUT, alas, the map turned out to be too big, so I shrunk it down to 3.5 feet by 2 feet and just printed out a bird's eye view of the park thanks to google maps:

Still pretty fun.

And that's my sharing for the day - Happy Yom Kippur!

September 10 : Lady With Green Hair

It's hard to photo copy a water color painting and get the right colors/texture to come through, but here's the best I could get! Featuring Lady with Green Hair in NYC.

August 25 : More Yoga

I get such a kick out of these drawings - probably because they portray exactly what happens/what I look like when I go to yoga.

August 14 : Email Time

We're having a party at work with all sorts of clients and friends of the office and we didn't have anyone's snail mail address. Today was the day I emailed all of them and awaited the 100+ emails I got with their varied responses!

August 13 : Sharing Time

Not feeling my best today - have some type of head cold and I'm EXHAUSTED, hence my lunch drawing:

But, I'm kept happy because I was so spoiled this weekend with a visit from my parents - aww, look how cute we are! My papa made that hat he's wearing - I definitely want one of those for Chanukah!!!

Aaaaaand! I'm the lucky wearer of Ken Leslie designed and executed finger nail paintings!!!! He used to do this for me and my friends at special sleep over parties at my house and I got such a kick out of him doing this for me again this weekend! If only I could grow longer nails he'd have had a bigger canvas to work with - I'm still pumped though!!!!!!!!!

August 9 : Malina Melts!

Being really tired on a Friday's lunch break will inspire doodles like this:

August 8 : Malina The Lion

Oh boy... I've decided that I won't feel guilty (or at least I'll tell myself not to feel guilty...) if I don't post very often. I'm still going to try, but the steps to make some artwork, then scan it, then edit it and then post it seem like too many that I keep stopping after making the art. At least I'm still creating some stuff even if I'm not sharing it...

That being said, here's a little lunch break moment that I had today - hopefully you completely relate!

July 23 : Yoga Take Two

Malina Tries Yoga: Again!

I was soooooo pumped when I went grocery shopping after my second go at yoga, only to find grapes were on sale for 99 CENTS a pound!!!! YEAHHHH!!!! I may or may not have bought 4 pounds.... Grapes are so delicious frozen - TRY IT! It's like a sweet, healthy, refreshing, tasty-as-oh-my-goodness-so-good-I-only-hope-you-try-it-as-soon-as-you-cannnnnnn, especially in this NYC sticky heat! yepyepyep, that's my story!

July 22 : Back from VERMONT!!!

I haven't posted for a handful of weeks partly because I was in Vermont at the FABULOUS Governor's Institute on the Arts. You can check out an amazing overview of what goes on there done by Eva Sollberger in her famous "Stuck In Vermont" series if you click HERE! I was a student at GIA in 2005 and have had the pleasure of working there as an RA for the past 3 years. Every year I get to meet so many talented and amazing high school students from all over Vermont. These 2 weeks are where I find I get to be completely and utterly myself, where I learn so much, become grounded, get to wear awesome clothes and color combos, have endless amounts of energy and am never quite ready for it to be over.

I finished the institute and came straight back to NYC, starting my job the very next day. It's been a little hectic getting back into the groove here - definitely not a ton of time to do art - AND SUCH HOT AND STICKY NYC LIVIN'!

Buuuut, here are some sketches I've done - enjoy!

And then I went to yoga for the first time....

And then I drew some cat t-shirts...
The End!
